How to know when you've found your true calling (and it's not what you think).

How to know when you've found your true calling (and it's not what you think).

So you’re here today to try and get clearer on what the bejaysus your true calling is right? That long arduous journey to finding ‘your thing’? 😩

Now I imagine you’ve been told (by near on a bazillion sources), that once you find what you love to do, ‘you’ll never have to work a day of your life again’. Have you heard that one? I mean ❤️️ yassss! Sign me up! I’ll have 20 slices of that please! 😁 Ha! But seriously, why do so many of us struggle to find it? Why do so many of us choose to just settle in the mundane, routine of ‘what we know’ instead?

Well, I’ve actually a couple of answers to that question.

Firstly, I think it boils down to a helluva lot of feelings of unworthiness (who am I to enjoy my calling so much that I’d legit do it for free all day erry day? That’s what ‘other people’ get to do, not average, ordinary me); feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt (everyone in the world is so much better than me at that so how could I possibly be successful at it? No-one would pay me and therefore it can’t possibly be my calling); and feelings of terror (I don’t know how to do it, therefore I can’t, because I’d fail anyway, so what’s the point?).

In summary, if you don’t feel like you’re worthy of it or capable of it, then why would you step out of your safe, familiar, routine world? There’s no logic in that. Safety, mundanity, routine – that’s exactly where you should stay. Non? (That question is a test 😉 note what feelings come up when I say that to you).

Secondly, I think it’s also because before we start, we assume the process of finding ‘our thing’ must be hard. It must involve decades of a whole loada flinging stuff at the wall, and just *hoping and praying* that something sticks…but with the risk of something not. So with it sounding like such a slog before you’ve even begun, you’d honestly just rather not endure it right? ‘Not trying and never knowing’ sounds fractionally more appealing than ‘trying so hard for so long, and then failing anyway’.

So how do they sound? Do either or both of those sound like what’s in your head right now? 🤔 Or am I getting close?!

Well if they do sound kinda close-to-home, then I’ve got the most excellent news for you my dear, because the very answer to the question posed in my blog post title, ‘How to know when you’ve found your true calling’ is exactly this;

That’s right. It’s the opposite of what you think it is. Y’know the arduous slog of a journey to find it? That trek into the jungle Indiana Jones-stylee to find that coveted, precious ‘calling’ stone that everyone wants, but only the few are resilient enough to find? Yep, that. It’s not that hard. In fact, nowhere near it.

Now I know that might be a total anti-climax and maybe even a let down to hear. But let me explain.

You know when you’ve found your true calling when what you’re doing feels easy, when it comes easily to you, when you assume everyone else must be able to do it – because it’s so damn easy! In fact, the root of your imposter syndrome probably derives from that very notion! It’s too easy to be true!

And there’s more! You know that voice of terror I mentioned earlier? You know, the ‘I don’t know how to do it, therefore I can’t, because I’d fail anyway, so what’s the point?’ – whatever that voice is telling you it’s terrified to do, is EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED TO DO.

And that’s the truth. But I get that hearing all that is a lot to take in, your brain’s probably already on overdrive trying to filter through all your life and work events and recount moments/activities/tasks that felt easy to you. I’ve gotta find it, I’ve gotta find it, what do I find easy?! Gah! …If this is you, STAHP. You’re already slotting right into the mode you were in right before reading this post – that it has to be a hard, arduous process. It really doesn’t. And to be quite honest with you, it can actually be fun! 🎉

And to show you in real-time how fun it can be, I’ve got a lil’ exciting workshop lined up for you this Thursday 6th December at 8pm GMT! Squeeee! 👏 It’s 100% online so you can attend from the comfort of your sofa, bed, bath, whatever! It’s 100% informal and I’ll walk you through how you can get on your ‘easily-finding-your-calling’ vibe. Annnnd it’s 100% FREE!

Ahem, you’re welcome 😉 *bows waftily and regally*

But surely there must be a catch right?! Well, there is tbh – there’s only limited seats available so you’ve reeeeally got to WANT to find your calling and show up (for yourself, not for me), or else you’re taking the seat from someone who really does want it and need it. And that’s not cool.

So whaddya say? Are we hanging out this Thursday? Are we gonna get you on your way to finding your true calling? Come register here;

PS, bring tea. And biscuits. Ooh and maybe some Haribo. And defo don’t forget the Maltesers! 😁Dress code: jimjams, blankets, big b*stard, fluffy socks, slippers, lip balm, notebook and pen-in-hand.

Until then gorgeous face, have a super-flawsome week! 💋

Big love and all the feels, Kerry :D
